Workers seen packing labeling jewellery. Other types of contract work include clerical work (packing circulars) and manufacturing specified items for clients.
The Centre has formed relationships with Siyazema, Hout Bay community and Thembeletu (Township organizations) working with the disabled from disadvantaged backgrounds, offering support and guidance.
Astra and JSEC continues to be acknowledged as a leader in the field of intellectual disability. It is regarded as a model of excellence in providing vocational, residential, leisure and other support services for people who face barriers to independent living. Each individual has the right to develop his or her potential, recognizing the uniqueness of each, promoting feelings of human dignity, a sense of self worth and the right to make informed choices. All this is based on Jewish values and beliefs, focusing on individual strengths, needs, abilities, interests and desires.
There is an executive committee which oversees the running of the Centre, and a Medical Committee which sees to the psychological, emotional and medical needs of the individual workers.
